Rainbow Toastmasters is a community of LGBT and gay-friendly individuals who meet once per week to improve their communication and leadership skills. Members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. Rainbow Toastmasters has always been a strong club with consistent membership and excellent support from their sponsors. Our members have won the area and district Table Topics and Humorous Speech Contests. We have also achieved the coveted Presidents Distinguished Award for two consecutive years.
Rainbow Toastmasters is a chartered member of the Toastmasters International organization, which is committed to leading a movement devoted to making effective communication a worldwide reality. Rainbow Toastmasters (club number 4100) is a chartered club under Area 73, Division H, District 60. Gay, lesbian, transgendered and gay-positive individuals are welcome at our club. Anyone is welcome to join our club to improve their communication and leadership skills. Come visit during a meeting to find out more.
In 1997, Michael Bagchus approached Mary Reinhart (ATM) and John Sproule (ATM B) with the idea of approaching the gay and lesbian community to see if there was interest to form a Toastmasters Club. A demonstration meeting was held on September 8, 1997. There were enough members present to start Rainbow Toastmasters and the names of the charter members were sent to Toastmasters International. Our first club meeting was held at the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto on Monday September 15, 1997. Our first executive Committee was elected, with Brian B. as President. Rainbow Toastmasters was chartered on October 1, 1997. October 1, 2017 will mark our 20th anniversary!
